About Gujarat
Gujarat is situated on the western part of the Indian sub-continent, it derives its name 'Gujaratta' meaning the land of Gurjars. Gujrat is the home state of Mahatma Gandhi, Gujarat is a remarkable coastal state rich in crafts, history and natural beauty. Punctuating the skyline with chimneys of sophisticated textiles mills, Gujarat is one of India's most industrialized states in western India. Gujarat state is bounded by the Arabian Sea in the West, by the States of Rajasthan in the North and North-East, by Madhya Pradesh in the East and by Maharashtra in the South and South East. This State has an international boundary with the Pakistan at the north-western fringe.

Two deserts, one north of Kachchh and the other between Kachchh and the mainland Gujarat are saline wastes. It has the longest coast line 1600 kms, dotted with 41 ports; 1 major, 11 intermediate and 29 minor ports. Gujarat bridges an area of 196,024 Km2  and the population is over 5,05,97,000. The capital of Gujrat is Gandhinagar and it has two official languages, one is Gujarati, which is derived from Sanskrit, and other one is Hindi. The important rivers of the state are Tapti, Narmada, Sabarmati and Mahi.  Organizing an area that housed the regions of the Indus Valley civilization and Harappan sites, it is also a leader in various industrial sectors like Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, Dairy, Cement & Ceramics, Textiles, Engineering and Gems & Jewellery.

The astounding beauty of the Gujarat can be witnessed in the areas of Katchh and Bhuj the sunlight makes a netted sunbeam dance over its shimmering silver sands. In the Gir Forest the 'Kings of the Jungle', Lions crouch to maintain their privacy that is hampered by the visitors here.

Location
Gujarat State is situated on the west coast of India and boasts of a 1,600 km long coastline. The Arabian Sea sweeps off the western and south western frontiers of the state. This is situated between 20o 1' and 24o 7' north latitudes and 68o 4' and 74o 4' east longitudes.

Weather
The climate of Gujarat is mainly moist in the southern districts and is dry in the north because of adjoining desert. The areas like Kutch, Jamnagar, Panchmahals and Mehsana fall in the rain shadow area and thus receive scanty rainfall. Gujarat experiences extreme type of climate and there is winter season from November to February, the hot season from March to May, the southwest monsoon season from June to September and the transitional month of October.

Airport
Gujrat has 10 domestic airports and apart from an international airport at Ahmedabad. Most of the domestic airlines operate out of Ahmedabad connecting it to rest of the country.

Rail junction
It has a good railway network that not only connects the state internally but connects the state to other places in India also.

Transport
Gujarat has a better road network than most of the other Indian states. They are in a fairly good condition. Gujarat State Transport Corporation and private operators operate regular buses to all the major destinations of the state from most of the larger cities.
