About Nagaland

Nagaland was formally inaugurated on December 1st, 1963, as the 16th State of the India. It is bounded by Assam in the West, Myanmar (Burma) on the east, Arunachal Pradesh and part of Assam on the North and Manipur in the South. This State consists of seven Administrative Districts, inhabited by 16 major tribes along with other sub-tribes, moreover each tribe is distinct in character from the other in terms of customs, language and dress. This is also an outstanding place for adventurous people.

Location:-
Nagaland state is situated on the extreme northern east just below Arunachal Pradesh. It has on its long eastern strip the neighboring country Myanmar. The north is bounded by Arunachal Pradesh, while on its west lies the state of Assam. It is bordered by Manipur on its south.

Weather:-
Rains are heavy in Nagaland state and the average rainfall is between 175cm and 250 cm. This state has a pleasant climate. It is generally cool in winter and warm in summer specially in the interior places and higher hills. In winter the night temperature come down between 4 degree celcius to 1 degree celcius in December, January and February are the coldest months in the year. The temperature of this state does not rise beyond 32 degree celcius and the average summer temperature is 22 degree celcius to 27 degree celcius.

Airport:-
Dimapur Airport is the main Airport of Nagaland and it is located at a distance of 5 Kilometers from the center of the Dimapur city. Dimapur is the arrival and departure point of many Airlines and this is also well connected to the important regions and other tourist spots of Nagaland. Major airlines such as Indian Airlines and Air Deccan have regular flights to and from the Dimanpur Airport in Nagaland. Kolkata and Gawahati are the two places from where it is easiest to reach Nagaland by air.

Rail junction:-
Railway station at Dimapur is the main railhead in the state and facilitates Nagaland Travel. Traveling to Nagaland by rail is very convenient for the tourists and the major railhead in the state is Dimapur, which is connected to Guwahati that is the gateway to the northeastern part of India. The railway station of Guwahati is in turn linked to the other important parts of the country by several trains. All the important air lines in the country has a number of trains that connect the state of Nagaland to the different parts of the country.

Transport:-
Kohima is connected by road to Dimapur (74 kms), Imphal(145 kms), Guwahati(390 kms), Shillong(490 kms), Calcutta(1,516 kms) etc. Nagaland State Transport runs buses from Dimapur to Kohima from 05.30 A.M. till evening and Blue Hills Travels, with its centre of operations in Guwahati, runs luxury buses connecting all the State Capitals of North-Eastern region. Taxis are also there and Mini Coaches and private vehicles are the main mode of local transport here.
